Welcome to the Shuswap and Salmon Arm region, where four distinct seasons are enjoyed by residents and thousands of visitors alike! The Shuswap Lakes are an extensive system of interconnected bodies of water that behave like one huge body of water. The Lake system includes Shuswap, Seymour Arm, Anstey Arm, Salmon Arm, and Mara Lake and the 1000 miles of shoreline are dotted with picturesque towns and villages. The region is immensely popular for it’s summer and winter recreational opportunities! The region is located midway between Vancouver, British Columbia and Calgary, Alberta, and easily accessible from the Trans-Canada Highway #1 and Highway 97A.
Salmon Arm! Defined by the lake with endless enjoyment for residents and tourists: sandy swimming beaches, water skiing, house boating, golf, camping, and exceptional fishing. With a population of approximately 17,000 residents, Salmon Arm is the largest community on the Shuswap Lake. Nestled in the rich agricultural valley and surrounded by forested mountains, Salmon Arm’s hot-dry-climate is ideal for growing grapes as evidenced by the many vineyards and wineries. Rich in culture and arts, Salmon Arm offers many private galleries and live music venues including the annual Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival.
Sicamous! ‘The houseboat capital of Canada!’ Sicamous enjoys a strong lake culture and is nestled on the banks of the Eagle River where Shuswap Lake joins Mara Lake. During warm spring and summer months, Sicamous’ 3,000 residents and visiting tourists fill the lakes with hundreds of houseboats. When the snow flies, Sicamous offers thrilling outdoor adventure in the Monashee Mountains that surround the community – from snowmobiling, cross country skiing, to dog sledding.
The Secwepemc or Shuswap Nation, is the First Nations people located throughout south-central British Columbia, welcome visitors to the area and encourage visits to the Secwepemc Museum and Native Heritage Park in Kamloops.
